Something for the restoration section.
Its not just wooden boats that need restoration.
Meiza is a 26ft Freeman, which was suffering from distressed decks. when we stripped her down we found that the decks had already been hacked about and badly repaired with polyester resin products. we made good all the cracks and re fibreglassed the decks with WEST system epoxy products.
When undertaking fibre glass repairs such as this you must use epoxy products as polyester is not strong enough or a suffeciently good adhesive so will fail. Polyester resin is an excellent material when used for boat construction where laminates are built up or parts are bonded together before fully cured. Epoxy on the other hand is an excellent adhesive, can be built up over already cured substrates and unlike polyester resin is 100% waterproof
Once the deck had been re fibre glassed, the cabins were coach painted, and new rubbingstrakes fitted, restoring her to her former glory
